what is a good aluminum clear coat?

i am polishing my aluminum tool box and need to know a good quality aluminum protective clear coat.

Clear lacquer would work but it would require occasional maintenance i.e. refinishing. A clear acrylic might be better, more durable and chip resistant.

What ever you use will have to be maintained due to the abuse that tool boxes receive (exposure to weather and banging around etc). Might be easier to just re-polish it every so often.
