How do you run with blisters?
I am training for a half-marathon – it is in 2 and a half weeks – and did my longest run (11 miles) at the weekend. It was raining bad and I developed a blister near my big-toe on my right foot. I know it’s not my shoes (I was fitted for a pair a few months ago) and I don’t know if it was my socks (double layered anti-blister socks).
I tried running this morning with the blister still there – I have a compeed blister plaster covering it – but it was very sore and I had to stop running.
Does anyone have any advice on running with a blister and/or prevention? Should I pop it? Thank you!
Never pop the blister. Leave the roof of it intact. If you must drain it, you should first use ice to shrink it. Use a sterile needle to drain it from the side. Keep it covered and keep an eye on any possible infection. Use moleskin on the area, duct tape, whatever you can do to cushion the site. In the future act preventatively on blister-prone areas. By all means, don’t let a blister keep you from running that half. Train wisely in the time you have left.
