Remolding a home the floor needs help?

I am remolding a bedroom in a old house. I pulled up some old carpet in one of the bedroom. The floor underneath is hardwood but the cushion from the carpet is stuck to it. How do I get that pad off the floor? The padding is so old it is rotting away but the floor seems to be in good shape.

That is always a great find, ya gotta love a wooden floor.

The pad was more than likely put down with glue so you really have two real good options.

1. You could sand the floor down and put a new coat of stain on it, or you can use lacquer thinner.

Lacquer thinner is a solvent solution that breaks down the essential properties of paints and varnishes, lacquer, shellac, oils, grease and adhesive residues.

The trick is just lightly dampen the rug. If you use to much you will remove the old stain and you will have no choice but to sand the whole floor and re-stain.
