I answer this question in the interest of public understanding. . I meet ordinary people who really believe that minorities are put preferred work and admission to universities, including loans. Nothing could be further from the truth. There is a difference between legal and practical equality opportunities and affirmative action. In other words, equal opportunities simply means that the situation of protected class applicants (minority, in general, but includes whites) should not be taken into account in the decision (to hire or admit). Affirmative action means there is a protected class without representation employee or authorized this organization and the organization that actively recruits in the class represented by job or admission to school (nursing students or female equipment operators). Affirmative action is an end to this is the last breath. Largely in part to the Supreme Court (or lack thereof) in recent ten years. Groups such as ISA did the damage as well. Private companies have recently attempted to implement voluntary affirmative action policies have been approved by a court of reverse discrimination. Even the law schools that self-report 98 to 99% of white students were banned from hiring based on race. At present there are only two circumstances in which affirmative action policy can be applied: a court order or by the organization to admit that intentionally excluding qualified minorities in the past by empirical evidence (so that the organization will be able to defend themselves in court challenges from groups such as ISA). You can guess the organization is not very specific for this action. Organizations (schools or companies) have tried to avoid the "race-based contracting through recruitment of "cultural diversity" instead. ACRI and similar organizations have threatened to sue for "discrimination backwards" saying "cultural diversity" is really run base. That may be. Organizations that still account for the absence of one or more protected classes have used cloaking recruitment of underrepresented minorities in terms of "intellectual diversity." Affirmative action has gone underground. A world of confusion still exists. At my university, we have affirmative action officer, although there is no affirmative action policy or program. The result is that people should understand that the organization under a court order AA policy has been shown that discrimination in the past and are now responsible for doing things. An example would be the Police Department Omaha did not hire any black rated 17, though there were candidates who finished in the top 10 of each year. At the end of the day, regardless of what people think or hear, through organizations like ACRI, even organizations that have been "monochromatic and sex for 100 years can not jump over hire a qualified applicant or lease it would be a minority in this organization. Pragmatically, it is simply that without affirmative action people tend to hire and recruit people like them. People are "uncomfortable" with people different from themselves. Organizations that offer the excuse that the explanation people to "fit." Do not you think? See the worst: small businesses!
