Replenish Rewetting

My contacts are bothering me like never before, my eyes are so dry, what’s the problem?

I’m a long term contact wearer, who’s always had some discomfort near the end of the day, with mild dryness, but it’s never really been a big deal. However, in the past week or two I’m finding it difficult to wear my contacts for ANY length of time. Within 15 minutes of putting them in my eyes feel dry, I’m constantly rubbing them and blinking, they feel so irritated.

Is there any reason such intense dryness could strike suddenly, and what can I do to ease the discomfort?

My eye related stats:
I’ve worn contacts for around 10 years, I wear Acuvue Oasys, I don’t sleep in my contacts, at least 2 days a week I wear my glasses all day, I use Optifree Replenish Solution to soak each night in fresh solution, I’ve been using CVS eye-rewetting drops (don’t help much), and I am on the computer a lot (which is standard for me)

After wearing Cooper Vertex for about 6 years, I got switched to the Oasys toric lenses at my last checkup. I was using Optifree Replenish at the recommendation of my eye doctor and started having some real problems with them being very uncomfortable after a few days of daily wear. When I went back to the doc he said some people have a problem with the Oasys lenses, but that I should try switching to the Clear Care peroxide system first. All my discomfort issues went away with the Clear Care. I’d always had some mild irritation with just about every multi purpose solution I’d ever used, but the Oasys lenses really made it a lot worse. Using the Clear Care with them, this is the first time in my life that I can really forget that I’m wearing contacts. I used AOSept in the past, but Clear Care is better.

The Twelve Chairs -

$12.99

One of several film versions of the 1928 Russian novel The Twelve Chairs (one of the better-known adaptations was the 1945 Fred Allen vehicle It’s in the Bag), Mel Brooks’ movie is set in the years following the Bolshevik revolution. Onetime aristocrat Vorobyaninov (Ron Moody), now reduced to a humdrum clerical job, discovers that his family’s fortune still exists. To keep their riches from falling into the hands of the revolutionaries, Vorobyaninov’s family hid the loot in one of twelve chairs. Taking a crafty beggar (Frank Langella) into his confidence, Vorobyaninov returns to the ruins of his ancestral mansion to reclaim his fortune. Also chasing after the twelve chairs is an Orthodox priest (Dom DeLuise), who tells himself that he only wants the money to replenish his church. Alas, the chairs have been scattered to the four winds, sparking a film-length race to retrieve the furniture and claim the gold. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Waterworld - Widescreen Subtitle AC3 Dolby

Waterworld – Widescreen Subtitle AC3 Dolby

$14.99

Widely considered to be an expensive failure, Waterworld was an epic vehicle for Kevin Costner, who starred in and co-produced the film, with his friend Kevin Reynolds as director. It was based on a 1986 screenplay by Peter Rader and cost an estimated $235 million, more than any film in history up to that time. Costner eventually fired Reynolds and directed the last few scenes himself. The story was filmed in Hawaii, using several artificial islands, and is set in an apocalyptic future, after global warming has melted the polar ice caps and flooded civilization. The Mariner (Costner) is one of the human beings who has adapted by growing gills. The survivalist lives on a boat on which he is growing a precious tomato plant. He tries to sell the plant and its dirt to the residents of an artificial island built of industrial waste. They imprison him when they discover that he’s a mutant with gills. But the island is attacked by the Smokers, a group of oil-guzzling raiders on jet skis headed by the Deacon (Dennis Hopper). The Mariner escapes with Helen (Jeanne Tripplehorn) and her daughter Enola (Tina Majorino). Back at sea, the Smokers repeatedly attack, using planes and boats, until they kidnap Enola. Enola’s back is tattooed with a map showing how to get to Dryland, the last unflooded area on Earth. But Deacon, who needs to get to Dryland to replenish the Smokers’ oil supply, can’t immediately decipher it. ~ Michael Betzold, Rovi

The Mouse That Roared - Widescreen Subtitle

The Mouse That Roared – Widescreen Subtitle

$12.99

The economy of the teeny-tiny European duchy of Grand Fenwick is threatened when an American manufacturer comes up with an imitation of Fenwick’s sole export, its fabled wine. Crafty prime minister Count Mountjoy (Peter Sellers) comes up with a plan: Grand Fenwick will declare war on the United States. Grand Duchess Gloriana (Peter Sellers again) is hesitant: how can meek little Grand Fenwick win such a conflict? Mountjoy explains that the plan is to lose the war, then rely upon American foreign aid to replenish Grand Fenwick’s treasury. Bumbling military officer Tully Bascombe (Peter Sellers yet again) leads his country’s ragtag army into battle. They cross the Atlantic in an ancient wooden vessel, then set foot on Manhattan Island, fully prepared to down weapons and surrender. But New York City is deserted, due to an air raid drill. While wandering around, Sellers comes upon atomic scientist David Kossoff and the scientist’s pretty daughter Jean Seberg. Kossoff has been working on the deadly “Q Bomb,” a football-sized weapon with the destructive capacity of a hundred hydrogen bombs. Suddenly seized with patriotic fervor, Tully captures Kossoff, his daughter and the bomb and brings them all back to Grand Fenwick. Tully has “won” the war-precisely what he’d been told not to do. The upshot of this “victory” is that every world power converges upon Grand Fenwick to claim the Q Bomb for themselves. The satire is heavy-handed at times, but The Mouse That Roared contains several unforgettably hilarious moments, including one startling “false ending.” One of the best gags involves the Columbia Pictures logo–a bit frequently cut from TV showings, worse luck. Based on one of the many “Grand Fenwick” novels by Leonard Wibberly, The Mouse That Roared was a success, yielding a Peter Sellers-less sequel, 1963′s Mouse on the Moon. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Acid Eaters/Weed - Collector's Subtitle

Acid Eaters/Weed – Collector’s Subtitle

$8.99

Includes:The Acid Eaters (1967) Weed (1972), MPAA Rating: PG The Acid Eaters A gang of weekend revelers gear up for a few days of fun on the edge in this over-the-top exploitation picture. The clock strikes five on a Friday afternoon, and a gang of part-time bohemians hop aboard their motorcycles and hit the highway looking for kicks. After smoking marijuana, knocking back beers, enjoying nude swimming and engaging in body painting, one of the women sinks to her death into a pit of quicksand following a fight with another gal over the attentions of her boyfriend Artie (Buck Kartalian aka Buckie Buck). After ripping off a hapless motorist to replenish their reefer supply, the partiers pair off for some sexual shenanigans while Artie is able to bring his gal back from the dead with the help of an Indian chief (who works his magic in exchange for $27 and a trading stamp). Finally, the hipsters find what they’ve been looking for — the White Pyramid, a twenty foot high monument constructed of sugar cubes dosed with LSD, where Satan (also played by Kartalian) cheerfully feeds them acid from the end of his pitchfork. The Devil encourages them to let go of the last of their inhibitions, leading to a crazed orgy while one of the gals (Pat Barrington) dances frenetically to the accompaniment of a bongo drummer. Cheerfully incoherent and casually amoral, The Acid Eaters also features Lila Lamont, Sharon Carr, Camille Grant and Ernie F. Orsatti (billed as Brick Wahl); Byron Mabe directed under the pseudonym B. Ron Elliott, and exploitation icon David F. Friedman handled the cinematography as Milo Gore. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi Weed Noted adult filmmaker Alex DeRenzy traded sex for drugs with this documentary about the international marijuana trade, one of his few efforts outside the world of hard-core porn. Book ended by footage of a congressional commission formed by then-president Richard M. Nixon discussing America’s laws regarding marijuana and other recreational drugs, DeRenzy and his crew travel across the United States and around the world to study attitudes about marijuana and laws against it’s use. In Missouri, DeRenzy interviews a game warden who shows pastures where wild marijuana plants provide home and cover for game birds. A visit to Nepal includes a stop at a shop where hashish is openly sold with government approval. A busy drug market is discovered in Cambodia, with high-grade weed available at bargain prices, and in nearby Saigon, American servicemen talk about the easy availability of marijuana, with factory-rolled joints (complete with cellophane wrapper and tax stamp) sold as “Park Lane Cigarettes.” Mexican farmers are filmed cultivating illicit marijuana farms in the hills, and American customs agents discuss their efforts to prevent pot from being brought into the country. And a drug dealer in New York City discusses the pros and cons of his trade and his personal attitudes about marijuana. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
