Gabrielle, who has arranged her own arrest in order to blackmail her better-known customers, presents Miller a list of her regular clients — as well as an incriminating videotape. Damaged Care - $24.99 Damaged Care is fact-based drama about the managed care industry. It originally aired on Showtime. Laura Dern co-produced and stars in the film as Dr. Linda Peeno, who gives up her career after earning a medical degree, so that she can take care of her family. Her husband, Doug (James LeGros), is a successful OB/GYN. In 1987, when their children (from previous marriages) have gotten a little older, Linda decides to return to work, and gets a job as a medical reviewer at Humana Health Care. Patient claims that aren’t approved by the UR (utilization review) nurses are forwarded to the doctors on the medical review team, who, Linda learns, are expected to rubber-stamp the UR nurses’ decisions. Every decision Linda makes to cover a patient’s care is questioned, sometimes angrily. The head of the UR department, Cheryl Griffith (Regina King) befriends Linda, and shares her unhappiness with the system. Linda has a crisis of conscience when she gets a call about an emergency heart transplant that needs immediate approval. Pressured by the company, she finds an out in the employer’s healthcare booklet, and denies the claim. The patient dies. Eventually, Linda quits Humana (angering Doug), and Cheryl gets her a job at a smaller, non-profit company, Brothers Managed Care. The system is pretty much the same, though, and Linda comes into conflict with the cost-conscious head of the UR nurses, Gemma Coombs (Michelle Clunie). When a nurse (Suki Kaiser) is stricken with a series of crippling strokes, Linda takes a stand against the company to get her the treatment she needs. Eventually, Dr. Linda Peeno gets out of the system, and becomes an outspoken critic of the abuses of the health care industry. Dern’s mother, Diane Ladd, and Adam Arkin also appear in the film. ~ Josh Ralske, Rovi |

The Bucket List – Widescreen Fullscreen Dubbed $9.99 Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman star as two terminally ill cancer patients who decide to break out of the hospital and live their last days to the fullest in director Rob Reiner’s seriocomic road movie. Edward Cole (Nicholson) is a corporate billionaire who is currently sharing a hospital room with blue-collar mechanic Carter Chambers (Freeman). Though initially the pair seems to have nothing in common, conversation gradually reveals that both men have a long list of goals they wish to accomplish before they kick the bucket, and an unrealized desire to discover what kind of men they really are. But one can’t accomplish such lofty objectives from the confines of a hospital bed, so now, in order to live their lives to the absolute fullest, Edward and Carter will have to make a break for it. With a checklist that includes playing the poker tables in Monte Carlo, consuming copious amounts of caviar, racing the fastest machines on four wheels, and much more, these two terminally ill men will do their best to fit a lifetime of experience into their last remaining days while forging an unlikely, but truly remarkable, friendship. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi |

Schindler’s List – Widescreen Dubbed Subtitle AC3 $7.99 Based on a true story, Steven Spielberg’s Schindler’s List stars Liam Neeson as Oskar Schindler, a German businessman in Poland who sees an opportunity to make money from the Nazis’ rise to power. He starts a company to make cookware and utensils, using flattery and bribes to win military contracts, and brings in accountant and financier Itzhak Stern (Ben Kingsley) to help run the factory. By staffing his plant with Jews who’ve been herded into Krakow’s ghetto by Nazi troops, Schindler has a dependable unpaid labor force. For Stern, a job in a war-related plant could mean survival for himself and the other Jews working for Schindler. However, in 1942, all of Krakow’s Jews are assigned to the Plaszow Forced Labor Camp, overseen by Commandant Amon Goeth (Ralph Fiennes), an embittered alcoholic who occasionally shoots prisoners from his balcony. Schindler arranges to continue using Polish Jews in his plant, but, as he sees what is happening to his employees, he begins to develop a conscience. He realizes that his factory (now refitted to manufacture ammunition) is the only thing preventing his staff from being shipped to the death camps. Soon Schindler demands more workers and starts bribing Nazi leaders to keep Jews on his employee lists and out of the camps. By the time Germany falls to the allies, Schindler has lost his entire fortune — and saved 1,100 people from likely death. Schindler’s List was nominated for 12 Academy Awards and won seven, including Best Picture and a long-coveted Best Director for Spielberg, and it quickly gained praise as one of the finest American movies about the Holocaust. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi |

Handle with Care [LP] $23.98 Nuclear Assault truly arrived on 1989′s Handle With Care — a record which stands the test of time as one of the East Coast’s best offerings to the thrash metal genre. The development displayed on their previous effort, Survive, was honed to an even tighter focus here, resulting in the band’s best and most powerful album. Outstanding thrashers like “Critical Mass,” “F: (Wake Up),” and “When Freedom Dies” lead the way with the same bile and fury fans had grown accustomed to. But the band also displays an increasing appreciation for melody and straight-ahead metal riffs on tracks like “Inherited Hell” and the epic “Trail of Tears” — no doubt upsetting those who preferred the rawer hardcore elements in their sound. And even though John Connely and Danny Lilker remain the band’s prime creative forces, drummer Glen Evans also contributes some killer material (“Emergency” and “Search & Seizure”), making Handle With Care Nuclear Assault’s truest band effort. Too bad this only presaged the splintering which would occur on 1991′s disappointing (and appropriately titled) Out of Order. (Lilker’s insistence on including pointless noise bursts spanning mere seconds, like “Funky Noise” and “Mother’s Day,” didn’t help matters any.) Still, Handle With Care is a perfect introduction, and pretty much all one will ever need from Nuclear Assault. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia & John Franck |

The film is narrated by the Emmy award winning actor David Hyde Pierce. ~ Perry Seibert, Rovi The Hidden Epidemic: Heart Disease in America Gain a comprehensive understanding of the disease which claims the lives of more Americans than cancer every year with this illuminating documentary that examines the origins of heart disease while also offering the latest information on research and prevention methods. A special half-hour discussion of heart disease hosted by Larry King and offering heart healthy tips from medical experts follows the program. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi Fat: What No One Is Telling You Per its title, thePBS special Fat: What No One is Telling You weighs in on obesity – that silent and subtly menacing American epidemic that afflicts a whopping 66% of U.S. adults. In lieu of exploring the oft-mentioned physiological dangers of this problem, however, this documentary raises the key question of why fat can be so difficult to shed – with a glimpse at the contributing factors in the psychological, physiological and emotional realms. In so doing, the film pulls in revelatory information about hunger, metabolism, and gastronomic consumption. As an added bonus, the film features candid and intimate interviews with everyday Americans who recount sobering stories about the obstacles that, for them, stand in the way of a trim and healthy body. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi The Truth About Cancer This documentary by filmmaker Linda Garmon traces the lives of people diagnosed with cancer, as well as family members of those patients. The project began when Garmon’s husband entered a battle with the illness, and the hospital where he underwent treatment became the central location for the movie. ~ Perry Seibert, Rovi Depression: Out of the Shadows This documentary takes a look at how depression can affect anyone, regardless of age, race, or gender. Although more than 18 million Americans suffer from the illness, depression still retains a certain stigma in the public eye. This program hopes to educate by interviewing people who live with depression. ~ Perry Seibert, Rovi |

Daddy’s Dyin’… Who’s Got the Will? – Widescreen Fullscreen Subtitle $12.99 This screen version of Del Shores’ play follows a dysfunctional Southern family as they squabble among themselves over the family fortune. As the title would suggest, Daddy (Bert Remsen), the patriarch of a large family in the deep South, is reaching the end of life’s journey as his health and energy slip away and he watches midget wrestling on a television that isn’t even turned on. Daddy’s children have all returned to the family home, ostensibly to show their support in their father’s final hours, but mainly because they’re eager to know how Daddy’s estate will be divided. Sara Lee (Tess Harper) has arrived with her new fianc?, Clarence (Keith Carradine). Evalita (Beverly D’Angelo), the high-spirited “black sheep” of the family, also has her new beau in tow, a pot-addled musician and health-food salesman named Harmony (Judge Reinhold). Orville (Beau Bridges) has brought along his wife, the patient and long-suffering Marlene (Patrika Darbo). And Lurlene (Amy Wright) is a born-again Christian who isn’t shy about expressing her views on sin and salvation. As the siblings and their companions bicker, Daddy announces that he can’t remember where he put his will, leading to a frantic search. Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes/Wine Colored Roses $15.99 BGO’s 2011 two-fer pairs George Jones’ 1985 album Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes with its 1986 sequel, Wine Colored Roses, two albums that arrived just as Possum’s popularity was beginning to downshift into a lower gear. George mourns the twilight of the country titans on the title track of Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes, implicitly acknowledging his place among them, and although his lament has lost its power over the years — almost every one of the singers name-checked in the song wound up having at least two other decades added to their career — the album as a whole has a burnished sunset quality to it, Jones and producer Billy Sherrill quite clearly touching upon past glories, always looking upon the past with rose-tinted glasses. Even the album’s obligatory novelty, “A Whole Lot of Trouble for You,” is a laundry list of brands from the past, its parade of products sitting quite comfortably with “The One I Loved Back Then (The Corvette Song)” or “If Only You’d Love Me Again.” There’s a skillful blend of ballads and honky tonk, spiked with just a little bit of Nashville corn, but Sherrill’s clean, contemporary production, tastefully dressed with echoes and synths, winds up sounding older and fussier than George himself, keeping the album somewhat at a distance even if its best moments have lots of life, whether it’s sorrowful or joyful. Wine Colored Roses is cut from the same cloth as Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes but it has a distinctly different feel. Billy Sherrill has peeled back some of the slicker, poppier elements of his ’80s productions — these still surface toward the end of the LP, with “If Only Your Eyes Could Lie” easing along like a country crossover Alabama could have sung and synths sprucing up “These Old Eyes Have Seen It All” — leaving the album feeling a bit purer than its predecessor. It is by no means sprightly, with only the novelty “The Very Best of Me” boasting a tempo approaching a trot, but this is a comfortable setting for George, and he sings expertly, his surroundings never masking his gossamer phrases. Everything is in place for a fine album, apart from the material: there are a couple of songs that hook in the mind, like “If Only Your Eyes Could Lie” and “The Right Left Hand,” but most of the album is merely competent, pleasing only on a generic level. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine |

National Health (Japan) (Mlps) (Shm) $54.99 The first National Health album couldn’t have come at a worse time, just when punk and new wave were the musical orders of the day. Of course, in many ways it did itself no favors. This swan song of the fecund Canterbury Scene is ultra-serious, and determined to show its musical prowess by frequent, complex changes of time signature, dense, convoluted arrangements, and frightening technical ability. In that regard, really, it differed from the main ethos of Canterbury prog rock and fusion, which had offered a whimsical, often surreal hippie vision of the world, never taking itself too seriously (if you like, its antecedent was really an earlier group of keyboard player Dave Stewart, Egg). Because of its attitude, the opening epic, “Tenemos Roads,” stands head and shoulders above the rest of the disc, suffused with both light and space, and lifting into a breathless atmosphere when singer Amanda Parsons enters. Melody is the key, and the track has plenty of them, mostly from Stewart and keyboard “guest” (and former member) Alan Gowen, who also shares compositional credits for much of the disc. From there, however, it’s pretty much all downhill. There’s still exceptional playing, but it seems more like the members saying “this is what we can do” rather than setting out to entertain and enthrall; in others words, it’s very self-indulgent, rarely more so than on the dark “Elephants.” “Brujo” has moments of hope, but in the main this is a band that — however good — sadly already sound past their sell-by date. ~ Chris Nickson |

The Care Bears Movie – Fullscreen Dubbed Subtitle $12.99 In a film designed to bring smiles to the post-toddler set on up to perhaps their seven-year-old siblings, this animated story by Arna Selznick (only the third woman in cinematic history to direct a full-length animated feature) is about the popular Care Bears. These loving creatures inhabit a realm in the clouds called Care-A-Lot, and their purpose in life is to get the humans down below to share their good feelings with each other. They watch over human children with large telescopes and help those children who need help. The Care Bears have their work cut out for them, because Nicolas, a lonely magician’s assistant, is about to fall under the evil influence of a bad spirit who lives in an ancient magic book — it seems Nicolas will do just about anything for friends. Aside from Nicolas, Kim (Cree Summer) and Jason (Sunny Besen Thracher) are in trouble because they are starting not to trust people after suffering many disappointments. Mickey Rooney is the voice of Mr. Cherrywood, the owner of an orphanage. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi |
